The Trout Next Door

North Carolina offers winter trout anglers a unique opportunity to catch trout locally by stocking ponds in municipal parks with surplus trout. These "trout next door" often cannot survive in these waters through most of the year, but they are stocked on a "put and take" basis during the winter.

I've found that late fall is becoming one of my favorite times of the year to fish the Smokies. I consider late fall to be from the first of November until the winter solstice. While the trout fishing in late fall may not provide the largest number of fish, I've found that fishing this time of year offers decent fishing with some additional benefits.

To answer these questions, we're going to metaphorically don our trout vision goggles, i.e. looking at flies through a trout's eyes by examining the trout's behavior and senses. One of the key points we will discover along the way is that you will be more successful fishing with specific imitations than with using generic or attractor flies.

Well the answer is Jim Casada who is a friend of Troutprostore and the author of Fly Fishing in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park which is available at Troutprostore.  Jim Casada, who was born January 28, 1942, is a son of the Smokies. He grew up in Bryson City, NC and cut his sporting teeth hunting and fishing in and around this small mountain town.

Troutprostore Great Autumn Sedge Beats NFL

Hi, As I sat on my desk I received a phone call from a West Virginia fly fisherman who turned down the Sunday NFL Football game that his fishing buddies were going to watch. BOY is he glad that he did. He used a Great Autumn Sedge Pupa from TroutProStore and on his first cast caught a 20 inch brown. He went on to catch several more browns over the next hour or more. Here are some of his excited comments:
