While many trout fishers talk in depth about matching the hatch, having drag free presentations, how to roll cast, etc., the trout don't really understand (or appreciate) such sophistication in many cases. Below are three videos that show simple trout fishing methods that work.
Like many avid anglers, James began fishing at a very early age. Thanks to his father and
grandfathers, James was able to fish several North Alabama ponds, Guntersville Lake, and the Gulf of Mexico on a regular basis. His fly-fishing experience began at age twelve catching bass and bluegills at local farm ponds and lakes.
On July 14 , we did the Trout Fishing in Pennsylvania blog and we have been blogging about tailwater trout streams. In line with that information, we have just learned about a very important tailwater stream in Pennsylvania called Codorus Creek. The West Branch of the Codorus Creek is a small, tailwater trout stream located in the southwestern part of York County, in south-central Pennsylvania. It is fed by a dam constructed in the 1970's to serve the cold water needs of a local paper mill.
We at Trout University have studied many of the instructional DVD's on the market today and we have selected 5 that we feel are the best for learning about trout fishing from the ground up, and here they are. Drum roll please!

We had a great day fishing Saturday, August 15th, in the Smoky Mountains. The video shown below covers the day's activities, including some of the fish we tangled with.
I slow down my trout fishing in the month of August and I believe that the trout are slower as well. The water is low making the trout more cautious as they must elude predators. Also, the temperature of the water is high, and warmer water contains much less oxygen. Therefore the trout will be less active through the hot dog days of summer.
I came across an interesting article, entitled "Streamers and Indicators" by Brent Postal, in one of my favorite magazines, the American Angler. (I like the on-line edition of the American Angler because they post the entire article on-line and do not use teasers.) The novel approach by Brent is that he prefers to use two indicators, his favorites being cork, and he spaces them about an inch apart.
