The South Holston River, or SoHo as it is called, is living up to its reputation again this summer! The Sulphur Hatches this summer on the South Holston River have been nothing short of spectacular. These little yellow sailboats have almost covered the water on many days this year.

September Caddis ? Most serious fly fishermen know that mid Fall is the time for the October caddis to emerge but this September we are seeing consistent but sparse emergences of #16 tan sedges with respective free living caddis larvae(Hydropsychidae) that were found by researchers in the 2010 summer seine samples.
I have been concerned about the water temperature in the Great Smoky National Park due to the exceptionally hot summer that we have experienced. I wanted to know if it would be harmful to fish for the pre spawn brown trout. I suspect that the browns will have a good appetite getting in good shape for the rigors of spawning, and as you know when they actually spawn, we prefer not to add the stress involved in catching them.
I went into the archives at ASKABOUTFLYFISHING.COM to hear a live interview with Trapper Badovinac and they were discussing fly fishing on the Missouri River in Montana, which by the way is the longest river in USA.
New England including the states of Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine have some of best streams for fly fishing and they are not unreasonably out of reach for those living in metropolitan New York City. For example Connecticut has two fine trout streams in the Farmington and the Housatonic Rivers.
