Freestone Creeks, Spring Creeks and Tailwaters

I was asked the other day “What is a freestone creek” and it occurred to me that there might be some anglers who are not acquainted with the terms that describe the different types of streams. There are three main types of streams that anglers often refer to; and they are freestone creeks, spring creeks and tailwaters. So I have a brief explanation here and a much broader explanation in Troutu Class 1025 to further the understanding.

Great Smoky Mountains Fishing Streams now on Google Maps

Many of the visitors to Trout University website have requested help in finding productive trout fishing streams, so we have started a section for that purpose; and we have given special attention to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (GSMNP).  We already have six of the better trout fishing streams listed in the GSMNP section with complete descriptions including how to fish that stream during each season of the year.
