Golden Trout or Real Gold

Thu, 04/22/2010 - 09:00 -- jmaslar

I went to the local gas station this morning as usual for my morning cup of coffee and I was surprised to see a man dressed for trout fishing. He had a good pair of waders belted at the middle, and a good pair of boots with felt soles. He even had a camo cap on his head. However, it was a little strange to see his wife in the passenger seat holding a dog and she was not dressed for fishing. I usually do not see a passenger who is not dressed for fishing and especially I do not see dogs with anglers. By the way, I did not mean to profile him!

They are important because the trout can eat them more easily than the clinger type of mayflies like the Quill Gordons and the March Browns.

Blue Winged Olive the Universal Mayfly

Mon, 04/12/2010 - 13:34 -- jmaslar

I recently did a description of the Penns Creek in Pennsylvania and that leads me to discuss the nature of the Blue Winged Olive mayfly. It is my opinion, that the Blue Winged Olive is the “universal” mayfly because it is found in just about every trout stream in the USA. Also, the hatch occurs over a much longer period of time than most of the mayfly family.
