Trout take particular notice of the adult Cinnamon Caddis once the females begin depositing their eggs (which usually occurs in the late afternoons or early evenings, but can start much earlier on cloudy and rainy days). The egg depositing can begin before the hatch ends, usually beginning near the end of the emergence period, and lasting one to two hours.

The Cinnamon Caddis adult females either deposit their eggs on the surface or dive to the bottom, depending on which species. Those that dive to the bottom return to the surface of the water and float for several seconds before flying away. If you notice that the caddisflies are depositing eggs and emerging at the same time, you will have better success fishing the pupae, though dry fly fishing may be more enjoyable.

Presentation:

When fishing the Cinnamon Caddis adult fly, you will want to cast your fly to the areas you observe the females coming to the water depositing their eggs. This may be difficult on bright, sunny days, as it may be very late in the evening under low light conditions. A dead drift is your best option for fishing your fly, unless you are able to mimic the skittering, fluttering motions of the real flies on the surface without scaring the trout.
