Chattahoochee River Conditions are Excellent

Thu, 06/17/2010 - 11:39 -- jmaslar

The Chattahoochee River as you may recall, has 48 river miles of designated trout water with over 9,000 acres of protected park lands managed by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and the National Park Service.

It is difficult to believe that just last September 2009 Lake Lanier was 20 feet below pool and authorities were desperate for a miracle to raise the lake elevation. Not only were our prayers answered with record Fall rains but also we had record cold air temperatures for 2009/2010 fall/winter. These frigid temperatures began in November 2009 extending into February 2010 and this cooling trend created a massive store of cold lake water. Pat Markey at Buford hatchery said these are the coolest river temperatures in 25 years! If you don't believe him just humor yourself and walk down to the rivers edge anywhere from Buford Dam to the north perimeter(I-285) to feel the cold breeze off the rivers surface. Water temperatures from Buford Dam will remain in the high 40's all summer long making for superb water conditions for trout.

We are excited about the great sport fishing opportunities below Morgan Falls Dam. As a result of last years excessive floods much of the Coontail grass is gone making for some great streamer and nymph Fishing. To learn more about the Chattahoochee River, go to TroutProStore.com.
