Terrestrial insects by definition are insects that are born or living on land rather than in the sea or the air. The only time that terrestrial insects get into the water is by accidentally falling or accidentally landing or by being washed into the water. Ants are by far the most common terrestrial that can be found as you have discovered if you have ever planned a picnic.

Fly Fishing Streamers in the Fall
In the fall, the brown trout are getting in good shape for the spawn and they need a good deal of food intake. They often feed on small bait fish like the sculpins to satisfy that appetite. A good streamer to use is the brown sculpin since sculpins are often found in almost any body of water. Here is some information about that popular streamer.
South Holston River Fly Fishing Report
The big browns are in prespawn mode on the South Holston River, feeding heavily during small windows throughout the day. While good numbers of fish can be caught almost anywhere on the South Holston, River, our biggest fish are being caught on low water floats in the middle or lower sections of the SoHo.
Fabulous dry fly fishing is starting around 3 PMeveryday. Sulfurs, craneflies, blue duns, blue winged olives, and midges are coming off in hordes and the fish are readily rising. It is perhaps the best dry fly activity we have seen all year.
