I was listening to an Orvis Podcast about Fly Fishing in Winter by Tom Rosenbauer, Marketing Director, Orvis Rod & Tackle, and I could not help but think of the Davidson River right here in North Carolina. He indicates that winter fly fishing is better suited to the larger rivers and the Davidson immediately comes to mind. Western North Carolina’s Davidson River is located near the small town of Brevard about a half hour drive from the city of Asheville, and less than three hours from Charlotte. If you have never fished the Davidson, it is definately worth a visit. This is a river that listed among the top 100 rivers by Trout Unlimited, and should be on every anglers list of must fish waters in North Carolina. It can be challenging, but it may give some interesting winter fishing.
Watch for a future class about "Reading Trout Waters" which will be based on Tom's book "Prospecting for Trout".
