Trout Fishing in Pennsylvania

Tue, 07/14/2009 - 11:04 -- jmaslar

Some time ago, a reader wanted to know about some TROUT streams in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.  It took a little longer than I expected as we were preoccupied with other items, but we finally have some good information.

First, Pennsylvania has a mountainous region the covers the major portion of the state with mountains that top out at around 2000 feet of elevation and capable of supporting a trout population.  The most productive area in our experience has been the North Central region encompassing Clinton, Centre, Union, Potter and Lycoming Counties.

While I lived in the Southern Tier of New York State, I have never fished for trout in these streams, but I have some reliable information from fishing buddies and here is a list of the favorite fishing streams.

Fishing Creek (from Mill Hall upstream to Tylersville (about 20 miles)

Bald Eagle Creek (above the dam in Blanchard upstream—to above Howard)

Penn’s Creek (in Centre County)

Young Woman’s Creek (north of Lock Haven on RT 120)

Kettle Creek near Renova still on Rt120 (both have special restrictions)

Little Pine Creek off US220 at PA44 (north of Jersey Shore-to English Center – very clear water)

White Deer Creek (west side of Susquehanna River, upstream from Harrisburg at exit #199 off I80)

Now, a reminder, before you fish for trout in Pennsylvania, be sure to check the fishing regulations and license requirements.
