Perfect Trout Flies are Best

Mon, 10/12/2009 - 10:08 -- jmaslar

We at Trout University are always searching for the very best products to make available on TROUTU In search of the perfect flies, on Wednesday Sept 30, Trout University traveled to Pigeon Forge Tennessee to visit the world famous fly fisherman James Marsh. James, along with his wife Angie, travel all over the USA, often spending 300 days a year on the streams creating DVD’s for teaching fly fishing.

Unfortunately, it was a full day of rain so we unable to fish with James, however, we did have a complete lesson in entomology with emphasis on the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (GSMNP). We quickly learned why his flies were “flying off the shelf”!

The flies are so perfect in every way that they are far superior to the generic flies found for sale in most fly shops and outfitters.  Here is a comparison of a blue winged olive fly available as a generic and available as a Perfect Fly.  As you can see, there is a great deal more detail in the Perfect Fly because it was tied with considerably more care.

As a result of that interview, we at the University have worked with James to package and sell a line of flies devoted to the Southeast USA with emphasis on the GSMNP. The GSMNP has the most diverse populations of insects found anywhere in the USA.

We are very excited to have the opportunity of making these Perfect Flies available on Trout University in the near future, so check back often.

Also, as a reminder, we already have approximately 20 fly fishing instructional DVD’s by James.
