Tue, 01/27/2009 - 09:13 -- jmaslar

In the small overgrown mountain streams of the South, it can be very difficult to see the trout.  When this a factor, the double team approach can be effective.  The double team is a fly fisherman and an in-line spinner fisherman.  If you approach the pool and no trout is observed, search the water by simply blind casting the dry flies, such as terrestrials. over the water hoping to get a hit.  However, if those casts are not sucessful, the in-line spinner fisherman should cast his lure into the headwaters at the front of the pool.  Quite often there may be a hit at the headwaters, but, sometimes, the trout will follow the spinner. and not hit it before it is reeled in completely.  Usually, the trout will turn and slowly meander back to the headwaters.  Since the trout is moving, your eyes have become focused on the trout, and the trout can be seen easily.  Now, the trout has been lured out into the open, and looking for a quick meal without expending much energy, he can be easy prey for the dry fly.
