Due to our limited advertising budget, we rely heavily on organic internet search traffic, social networking, and years of hard work in content creation. However, recently, self appointed internet gatekeepers Google and Facebook have smacked down on us. Google's January 2014 search algorithm update eliminated over 50% of our traffic overnight, making us almost invisible on Google searches, and thwarting the last several years of our efforts. While I'm sure Google will argue they're making improvements to their search engine, their changes seem to be more geared toward extorting money out of websites through their Adwords advertising and forcing their much maligned Google+ on everyone. In other words, the hip college kid founded company that changed the internet has now gone to the dark side.
You can see our year over year traffic comparison below. We were trending slightly higher the last several months (blue) than a year ago (orange) until the Google hit job.
Similarly, Facebook has recently smacked down in an effort to force us to pay for ads. Now, even our Facebook followers have to look hard to find us. Please help us fight back!
