UPDATE: It is available now at the TroutU Store.
Jim Casada recently said "The best book that I’ve ever written will be out before long. I’ve made a final decision on the title, which will be Fly Fishing in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park: An Insider’s Guide to a Pursuit of Passion."
Casada recently delivered this progress report: The manuscript is finished--all 400+ pages of it. I'm meeting with the layout and design guy next weekend to finalize everything before getting bids from printers and getting it printed. I anticipate the book being out in late summer or early fall.
I think it looks good and I know that it transcends anything available in terms of detail--52 chapters covering every major stream in the Park in detail along with information on smaller feeders as well. Suggestions on getting "back of beyond" on every watershed, a look at "Seasons of the Smokies," plenty of human history, and a whole batch of appendices (many with graphs) covering things such as month-by-month precipitation, average monthly temperatures, graphs of drainages showing the rate of ascent over miles (i. e., a guide to how difficult the walking and wading is) along with waypoints, a massive annotated bibliography, lots of use of color, etc.
Although I have written many books before, I've never previously self-published and that means every penny going into this book (and there are a bunch of them!) comes straight from my pockets. I am hoping the book will be well-received as I need to recover those heavy front-end expenses. I'd like to think it will become a "must have" for anyone really serious about fishing in the Smokies. Now for the rest of the story, here are my comments.
Jim, that book sounds like an encyclopedia of Great Smoky Mountains National Park so I can understand how it can take some time to put it out and I eagerly await its arrival.
