Maryland Trout Stocking Begins

Wed, 01/29/2014 - 14:17 -- jmaslar

In Ferbrary, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources will start releasing Rainbow and Brown Trout in streams and lakes across the entire State. As the stocking continues through the summer a total of 335,000 trout will be released. DNR Inland Fisheries Division Manager Don Cosden reminds us that these hatchery raised trout are more eager to take bait than the wild trout, so it is an ideal time to take your youngsters out fishing.

The stocking schedule is available online at the Trout Fishing page, and at DNR Regional Service Centers and license vendors. Updates are also available on the DNR Fisheries Service Facebook page, Twitter feed, email news service, and by calling 800-688-3467 and pressing option #2. DNR offers an excellent Google Map of stocked streams to help anglers find their way to the hot spots, and encourages everyone to follow the action and share their successes using the DNR Angler's Log.

Some  preseason stocking will take place in February and starting in March, the stocking season will be well underway including the North Patomac and the Savage Rivers.
