Easy Tippet to Fly Knot

Fri, 01/10/2014 - 11:13 -- jmaslar

I was surfing the internet today and discovered a new knot for tying the tippet to the fly. The main features of the knot are the size, speed and strength.  It is very simple to tie and can be tied quickly. The small size makes it desirable for those small flies like the midges. In addition, it tests between 85% and 100% of line strength which is more than satisfactory for me. Clumsily as I am, I was able to master it very quickly after watching the video. Are you ready for the name? It is the Davy K named after its inventor Davy Wotton, a British Fly Fishing pro. For moare about the knot including clear, simple video, go to the NetKnots.com web site HERE.

Davy Knot

1. Thread 3 to 4 inches of leader (or tippet) through the hook eye.

2. Loosely form a simple overhand knot ahead of the hook.

3. Bring the tag end back through the loop making sure to pass between the overhand knot and the hook itself.

4. Tighten the knot by pulling first on the tag end to draw up the knot, then on the main line to set the knot.
