Great Olive Winged Drake Spinner

Spinner:

The Great Olive-Winged Drake Spinners, both male and females, usually start to  fall when it is beginning to get dark, and they will continue to fall after dark. Since they fall the same time as the hatch, you have your choice of using either the Perfect Fly Dun or the Perfect Fly Spinner, both may be equally effective. Experimentation will prove which will be effective at any given time.

Presentation:

As with the spinners of other mayflies, the Great Olive-Winged Drake Spinners will tend to collect in the eddies, or the tails of pools or the edges of moving water. If you can see a feeding trout obviously you should cast to him. If not, present the Perfect Fly spinner where you have a good view of the fly due to the low light conditions. Use a long leader 8 to 10 foot long with a two foot long 4X tippet and fish with a downstream presentation especially if the water is smooth.

It is also a good idea to fish for the large browns that will be feeding early in the morning just before the sun rises.
