Tom Sliker the Director of Information Technology and his wife Valerie are in Alaska and sending back some wonderful pictures and stories as well. While there, they saw the great dipnetting extravaganza called dipnetting. It seems that the locals are allowed to dip net the salmon out of the Kenai as they run up to spawn.
The object is to get enough salmon to fill the freezer for their winter supply. They must be a resident of Alaska for one year in order to participate. The all gather around the water's edge with nets attached to long poles Then they dip into the water and drag the salmon out to the bank.
Here are some great pictures including a moose in a meadow and a moose close up, I think.
