When I was fishing in Florida using live shad for bait, I often used colorful baloons as bobbers or "strike indicators". When the baloons would move rapidly over the surface of the water, that would indicate that the bait was being pursued by a bass, and when the baloon was starting to go under the water, I would set the hook.
Now that technique has been applied to trout fishing and the tiny baloons are called Thingamabobber Strike Indicators. The revolutionary Thingamabobber attaches to your leader in seconds, stays securely in place and will not effect your cast. It never sinks and requires no floatant to keep it riding high on the water. Available in assorted colors and sizes:
Small (1/2" dia.)
Medium (3/4" dia.)
Large (1" dia.)
X-Large (1-1/4" dia.)
Here is a typical review:
"These are the best things to come to fly fishing since the graphite rod! Superb ride, stays in place, highly visible in ripples and they are extremely sensitive to subtle strikes. One of the hardest components of fly fishing is the drift, my clients improve within the first 10 minutes of use just by watching the bubble. Must have for guides and anyone else who casts a fly! Great product!"
