My favorite novelty song for the Christmas season is Snoopy VS. The Red Baron written in 1966 by Phil Gernhard and Dick Holler. The song was inspired by the famous comic strip Peanuts by Charles Schulz. The theme of the strip was that Snoopy dreamed of himself in aerial combat with the infamous and dreaded Manfred von Richthofen the Red Baron in the "big one" WWI. In the l;ast dog fight April 21, 1918, the Red Baron was flying the Fokker Dr. 1 when he was shot down.
The Aussies recovered his body and the British gave him a millitary burial. I could not uncover any evidence to support the fact that Snoopy was a trout fisherman, however, the Baron was a great hunter and outdoorsman.
