The Brown Drake hatch usually starts about dark or just after dark and when the weather is mild. Since it is warm, their wings dry fast and they are not on the water long. Due to the low light conditions, it is better to fish with a dry fly imitation because it would be difficult to see the wet flies. When the trout takes the dun you will be well aware of it.

Presentation:

Attempt to keep the Perfect Fly dun in an area where you can see it under the low light conditions. As a result, you may need to cast up and across, or downstream to take advantage of the available light. The water is usually smooth making for less drag issues.

Night fishing presents its own set of conditions and problems. Blind casts will be necessary and it may be necessary to change positions, so do it carefully. But if possible due to safety concerns, try to remain in one area as long as possible. Personally, I do not enjoy night fishing due to the obstacles, however, some anglers do enjoy it and the rewards can be well worth the efforts. MORE
