Tue, 09/22/2015 - 13:53 -- jmaslar

Recently I received a package of dark purple saltwater nylon fly tying material from Jerry at Bestway Outdoor.I use this material to tie flies for deepwater cod and pollock fishing off the coast of Maine. This material in dark purple is far and away the most productive I have used to date and that includes bucktail and dozens of other synthetics. It is also very durable and you will lose your fly to dropper loop breakoffs long before the fly wears out.

Trout Virus Found in AR Hatchery

Mon, 08/17/2015 - 12:46 -- jmaslar

Rainbow trout at the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Jim Hinkle Spring River State Fish Hatchery have tested positive for infectious pancreatic necrosis, a virus that can be fatal to fingerling trout. IPN is not transmittable to humans and presents no risk to anglers who handle or eat trout. An annual fish health inspection at the hatchery recently revealed the presence of the virus. Biologists will gather fish samples from the state’s tailwaters to determine the presence or absence of IPN in the wild.

Muskegon River Regulations

Tue, 07/28/2015 - 11:17 -- jmaslar

Michigan DNR is looking into making some necessary changes to the regulations as they relate to the Muskegon River. Over the years, the river has seen a great deal of pressure and illegal activities. In some cases chumming with enormous amounts of eggs has been practiced by some anglers. After chumming, they fish by dragging beads through the water. This hardly seems like a sporting event! There are other issues as well and they have been addressed by the Michigan DNR who held a meeting last night.
